Not bad for a first try.

You should look into using arrays for your bullets or something....that way when you shoot a bullet the old one doesn't disappear. And add a counter so that you can only shoot every second or so, if you hold down spacebar tries to shoot constantly.

try something like:

counter++;

if(counter >= 20){shoot = true;}

if(Key.isDown(Key.SPACE) and shoot == true){ then fire or whatever u have for that and then make shoot = false; counter = 0;}

something like that would help.
